Massage Therapy
I believe that all kids require nurturing touch to thrive. We learned early on that David loved to be wrapped snug in a blanket, so my husband nicknamed him "Burrito" We also learned that he does not like a soft touch. He does not like tags on his clothes or when you brush his hair.
Daily massage is just one of the ways we help David to regulate. Our Massage Therapist explained that his arms and legs tingle like they are asleep, and that is why he constantly moves them. She showed us the proper way to use massage, and we have been doing it ever since.
To give your child deep pressure massage, also known as deep pressure touch or “hand hugs.” This involves using the palms of your hands to apply firm pressure to the child's body, working from the hands and feet inward towards the torso.
We turn it into a game (that I once saw online) called Making Pizza! First, we knead the dough (using the palm of your hand). Then we add the sauce (whatever oil you want to use). then knead the dough again and add the toppings (using the tip of your fingers to massage.
