Why Homeschool?
I have researched and visited many public and private schools for an elementary school program that would be appropriate for Little D's learning needs. In my research, I came to the conclusion that none of these facilities will be able to meet his needs where he is at. These educational facilities are centered on group instruction, with a standardized curriculum and a pace that he can’t keep up with at this time.
We have tried but learning through didactic lectures based on a rigid curriculum is not working for Little D. His skills are too scattered. He is non-verbal and this impairs his ability to succeed in a traditional school with predominantly language-based instruction. At some point in his life, this learning style may work for him, but it is not working right now.
After researching this for over a year, we feel that Montessori homeschooling will allow us to schedule various therapies (5 days a week) around his academics and successfully integrate them into his day without taking away from what he is learning.
